Today is a memorable day for VK and all VK mobile app users: the largest update in years for Android and iPhone has been released!
We made access to key app sections as convenient and fast as possible, while adding new opportunities for comfortable messaging and searching for interesting content.
Meet the new menu
A few years ago, the VK app already had a bottom menu, but the inclusion of certain new features and services necessitated a lateral menu. Over time, it became obvious why most people use the app: to communicate with friends, acquaintances and colleagues, to follow the news, and to find something new and intriguing. Meanwhile, we realized that the side menu had become cramped with too many sections, making it necessary to constantly think about where to tap. This aspect prevented us from achieving our mission of remaining the most modern, fast and aesthetic way of communication.
The update highlights your most important functions in the bottom menu, allowing you to switch between news, messages, search and notifications in just one tough. The other sections remain available albeit on a separate screen.
In addition to navigation, we improved many sections of the app, the most notable of which are discussed below.
Search and discover something new
A new universal search engine will quickly locate the right profile, community or wall post. One field for finding everything is always at hand.
Posts, photos, videos and many, many more interesting things await you. Our algorithm locates information based on your preferences and collects the best posts for you. To discover new quality authors, it takes into account what news you read and how you interact with it such as how long you watch, analyze or comment.
News, anonymous articles, photos from around the world, community posts regarding different topics and more are simply one step away in the Search and Suggestions section, the second tab of the new app menu.
Thanks to new recommendations, creators can expand their audience and reach the screens of more users. Learn more about the new era of creativity.
Don't miss out on important updates
The answers section has evolved into a real notice center. In addition to the existing alerts, there are friend requests, conversation mentions, birthdays, new friend and community posts, and the ability to send community invitations.
Moreover, we made notifications customizable and even trained. For example, it is now possible to select your settings such that you only receive notifications about likes from certain people, and our algorithms then learn to understand which likes are most important to you.
Also, we included a special role in friend requests so that you can manage them in notifications. The badge about new requests won't bother you anymore as it will disappear immediately after you switched to the list of requests.
Three more innovations about the news feed
Greater information about any post: the view counter is now displayed in the news feed in the lower right corner of the post.
Sharing a story is even easier: just swipe right in the news feed.
Likes are red, brighter and more visible. After all, if you like something, you need to say it with feeling.
This is the most ambitious update in years
We have simplified the daily tasks you use VK for, from communication, life updates from friends and finding interesting material. We shortened the time it takes to obtain important information while enhancing other sections. A couple days will be slightly unusual, but then you won't believe it — could it be any different?
